My dear daughter,
I suppose almost all children take a first interest at the same things as their parents. Parents will most likely present things they like to their children instead of things they don’t like. And at an early age it is unreasonable to imagine parents presenting all kinds of things (that’s a lot of things) to find out which ones their children like or dislike.
Parents should present things, not try to force them upon their children. Nor indoctrinate. It is clear to me this includes contact with religion. We should have separate talks just for religion.
It would appear to be the natural order of things for children to learn new things by themselves as they grow and choose their own interests, as they evolve their own personality. And I suppose it is natural at some point to revolt against things their parents like, or things they used to like. This may be to blame on the parents, or may have nothing to do with them.
It’s in the child’s nature to eventually revolt against the parents. The creation revolts against the creator. You will want to go your own way and possibly have your own creations.
Let’s hope this doesn’t mean I’m destined to make you hate Rock and Roll, because that would be a shame. But hey, you can have any musical taste or any taste to anything and we will respect that.
Truth is, when I was young I disfavored many styles of pop music because they sounded poor somehow, compared to Rock and Roll, for example. And when I started learning to play the guitar and noticing new nuances in music I came to appreciate all styles, or at least I began to pay closer attention to their elements. It’s always interesting.
For example, pop music is so popular, among other things, because the most used rhythm, the most common time signature is ¾ (that’s three beats in a measure), and that’s very similar to the time signature of your mother’s heart, which you heard during your (almost) 9 months of pregnancy.
That’s all for today.
Love,
Dad
