My dear daughter,
Here’s my top 5 sci-fi movies of all times (at this moment):
- 2001 – A Space Odyssey;
- Star Wars – The Empire Strikes Back;
- Star Wars – A New Hope;
- Blade Runner;
- Blade Runner 2049.
We are using this top 5 format in honor of the very good movie High Fidelity, by director Stephen Frears, with John Cusack and Jack Black. But the format has become quite popular on Youtube because it seems to be a good way to make quick videos and that’s what people enjoy the most in there.
Blade Runner is based on a novel by the author Philip K. Dick, entitled Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? He was a genius and had a troubled life. You will find many good sci-fi movies are adaptations of his novels and short stories. On the other hand, 2001 is based on a novel by Arthur C. Clarke, another genius with a very interesting life. Everything about the book and the production of that movie is interesting.
Here’s my top 5 horror movies of all times (at this time):
- The Shining;
- The Exorcist;
- Rosemary’s Baby;
- Psycho;
- Suspiria.
Here’s my top 5 adventure movies of all times (at this moment):
- Indiana Jones & Raiders of The Lost Ark;
- Back to The Future part 1;
- Back to the Future part 2;
- Big Trouble Little China;
- Goonies.
Here’s my top 5 fantasy movies of all times (at this moment):
- Clash of The Titans (the first one from 1981, the year I was born);
- The Dark Crystal;
- Krull;
- The Neverending Story;
- The Lord of The Rings.
If I could add two more movies in this fantasy list, they would be Conan The Barbarian and Excalibur.
I suppose these are my favorite film genres.
Love,
Dad
