This is one of those rare posts outside of the letters to my daughter chronology.
It’s quite a coincidence the letters from December 27 and 28, 2018, were about Wikipedia.
I read an article yesterday on The Guardian stating Wikipedia was the only “non-predator” tech company in the USA. They didn’t use these words exactly. But Wikipedia’s founder even said he faced accusations of being a communist for starting a non-profit to curate and spread knowledge.
M****rf*****g Musk even said it was a “wokepedia”. They prefer to burn books, like the nazis did in the 1930s and 1940s.
The other day I read another article explaining how Google’s AI steals info from Wikipedia by placing paragraphs from the encyclopedia in their AI search results, so people don’t click on Wikipedia anymore. They don’t compensate Wikipedia for it.
It’s a shame. Such a large and enduring initiative to curate knowledge with democratic and clear rules for community input. They invite debate. It’s a living encyclopedia. AI and Big Tech are here to kill it all.
