You know, people have normalized an out-of-the-closet nazi as the richest man in the USA. They have normalized the fact that he owns social media which openly promotes hate, racism and far-right ideology.
Last time, about 70 million people died in a war fighting nazis. Because nazis are bad. Period.
They have normalized the biggest social media company allowing posts with racist slurs and sexualizing children.
These guys openly criticize and lie about countries trying to hold their companies accountable and trying to contain the reach of terrorist, nazi and racist posting. Even if it is to protect children.
They normalize this social media even though it is as harmful to children and teenagers as illegal drugs.
It’s also very, very unsettling to realize these are all american companies.
I remember people were already warning about such dangers back in 2016. Almost ten years on, things are… a lot worse.
They normalize and hype up this big scam called AI, fostered by a christian fundamentalist with some very, very dangerous ideas for democracies, minorities and everybody who isn’t super rich.
I mean, they hype up this completely unrealiable, unaccountable, inauditable and untested technology. Which is being pressured into extensive adoption by all companies and governments. It doesn’t matter if it is actually necessary or useful in any given area.
They hype it up so you can test it and train it for free, while they profit billions.
Not to mention the fact that they simply declared everything that was ever uploaded to the internet is void of copyright, in any country whatsoever and fair game to be used as training material for their models. They simply made theft legal.
I’m not even talking about exploited people in very poor countries being used almost as slave workforce to perform the bulk of the model training.
People also seem to completely ignore it’s a completely unsustainable technology. It has already drained up water reserves in entire states in developed countries. A single data center pulls more electricity than a large city. Can you imagine the carbon cost of generating all that electricity in a country which doesn’t rely on renewable sources? Plus, they literally take out the electricity from people. It goes to the data centers before going to people’s homes.
Nevertheless, people already use it trivially, even to find information they would get anyway with a regular Google search or by reading the first paragraph of the Wikipedia article. Which is exactly what the AI search result displays.
It’s as if all the food and water was going to last a month and people decided to throw a big party and consume everything in a single night, because some rich guy said it was gonna be cool.
I get this feeling all the time I’m the only person on the boat telling everybody else there is water flooding in, and everybody just keep on partying carelessly.
I don’t know about the rest of you. I have a daughter to raise. I’m very, very concerned about the world she’s gonna live in.
