My dear daughter,
In this country the Judiciary Power, and most notably the Supreme Federal Court is scared shitless of the military.
It is pitiful and it would be hilarious if it wasn’t so tragic.
They are forbidden from enforcing the Constitution if it goes against some general’s idea of justice.
We had a military dictatorship sponsored by the CIA between 1964 and 1985, but back then the army had some real power. Nowadays they are this sorry bunch which supply organized crime with heavy weaponry. Meanwhile, they don’t have enough ammo for a 5-minute real war.
It’s not like they are warfare experts constantly defending the country. They can barely keep their own essential services up. Their most notable recent feats include a fire which destroyed our research facility in Antarctica, a fire which destroyed our one and only nuclear submarine and another fire which destroyed our sole aircraft carrier.
They have recently assumed public security in a state under federal intervention, and violence against civilians has peaked. They are also pretty good at keeping our borders open to international traffic.
Other than that, they excel at draining tax money to sustain a privileged caste of officials and retired personnel which isn’t really in fighting shape.
Still, after all these years, they continue to fancy themselves outstanding politicians and public administrators, albeit lacking the popular vote. Which hasn’t been an obstacle before and certainly isn’t one now.
