My dear daughter,
Because of the Star Trek groups in Second Life I ended up playing Star Trek Online when it was released. I’ve played it for 9 or 10 months. It comes with no surprise my main was a Klingon Federation Officer. But after that I quit MMOs for good.
I went back to playing old games and emulator games. I have replayed several games, like Baldur’s Gate, Ultima VIII and IX and Fallout 3.
When I went back to work as a lawyer, before I was called to take on public service, I used my first payment to assemble a state-of-the-art PC. For gaming, obviously.
So I managed to get acquainted with top games at the time, like Diablo 3, Skyrim, GTA IV and V and the Dark Souls series.
I must have played 300 hours or more of Skyrim. You can check on your game-hours on Steam. It’s good to keep track of your time, but it’s a shame to realize (after you get past denial and self-illusion) how addicted you are.
When I started playing GTA V I was already married. I made the mistake of trying GTA Online. It wasn’t quite a MMO, it was more of an online mode where you could play specific missions with other players. But I got hooked. I remember staying awake for 2 nights in a row to play GTA Online. After that marathon we had my sister’s bridal shower and I was destroyed.
Dark Souls was another recommendation from Marcelo. He was right on spot with that one, I quickly fell in love with the game. I was playing the first Dark Souls until the first hours of the day of our marriage ceremony. Between bosses I would work on the tickets the women would trade for personalized slippers during the wedding party.
I should probably reserve a full day/post/letter just to talk about Dark Souls, and it might not even be enough.
Love,
Dad
