My dear daughter,

We have had this colossal environmental and human tragedy, where a mining company relapsed into letting a toxic mud barrage break and murder hundreds of people and animals and destroy rivers and large portions of land.

Some people are arguing authorities shouldn’t be too hard on the company, because it  has high market value, it has too much money invested on it, it employs thousands of people and produces and exports millions of tons of iron ore.

We’ve truly achieved this point which was only brought up in dystopian fiction: money is worth more than human lives.

This is a criminal, murderous company, with criminal, immoral investors, directors board, president and executives. Public servants who were complacent with their practices are also immoral. It was already hard to argue the first disaster was an accident, this second event so close after is an act of wanton violence.

We don’t allow mass murderers to come and go as they please, we shouldn’t allow it when a company commits mass murder as a business strategy.

What about all the jobs and the economic activity? This is where the wonders of capitalism come into play, if one company can’t operate without murdering people, surely another one will rise to take its place, simple as that.

Love,

Dad
