My dear daughter,

Somehow, it worked! You almost slept the whole night through. You just complained a little once.

I have this problem where I constantly need one or multiple foci to my attention. I find it usually difficult to focus on a single object or activity.

That’s why I was always drawing while taking notes at school and college (and I did take notes of everything). I guess the drawings even helped me memorize text while studying.

I often read more than one book at a time and study more than one subject at a time. Right now I’m taking 3 courses simultaneously. When I’m reading something online, you will find 11 to 18 tabs open in my navigator. And I’m always concerned about a great many things at once.

There are a few subjects which grasp my undivided attention. I have discovered you are one of them. I can toss everything away to focus on you.

The same goes for movies, a few TV shows, some books, some videogames, texts on particular subjects I’m very fond of and a few physical activities such as karate. I also don’t like to divide my attention while driving.

When I have few or no things to focus on, my mind commands my body to self-stimulate, mostly by biting my nails and biting off the skin close to the nails. This happens when I’m nervous or stressed about something, too.

It’s a really nasty habit which I’m not proud of. I’ve been trying to get rid of it, but it’s hard. I want to set an example, because we are always taking your hand and fingers out of your mouth.

I’m trying to play with other objects to distract my mind. I’m learning coin tricks and I have got this hand flexor. I have had mixed results so far.

Love,

Dad
