My dear daughter,

Last year I gave your mother a copy of Leonard Mlodinow’s The Drunkard’s Walk.

Because it’s my favorite book in the world.

Somehow she thought I was implying she had mental health problems, because she had an altercation with my mother about psychopathology or something like that.

Here’s the entire picture: your mother makes a point of showing despise over your grandfather and grandmother in front of you whenever she can. She wants you as far away from your grandfather and grandmother as possible.

My mother, who is 74 years old, was very, very upset about this, because you won’t even look her in the eye. You are a 6 year old child who won’t hug your grandmother. So she sent me a very upset and emotional private message implying your mother could suffer from some psychopathology.

Your mother accessed my mobile phone when I wasn’t looking, read that message and got very, very upset about it.

On her birthday, I gave her The Drunkard’s Walk and Roger Penrose’s Shadows of The Mind, which is also a great book about counsciousness, even though I don’t agree with his thesis.

She thought I agreed with my mother about the psychopathology issue and that these books were meant to help with mental health, which couldn’t be farther from the truth.

And she melt down over these books. She wouldn’t hear my explanations. I had to take the books back. To this day, she can’t look at them in bookstores and I never gave her a book again.

Love,

Dad
