My dear daughter,

So Batman, he is a billionaire who inherited all his fortune – he never worked a day to become CEO, president and main shareholder of all his companies.

Every night he dresses as a bat and goes into the streets beating the crap out of petty criminals in the slums of Gotham city, all of which come from poor backgrounds. Sometimes he beats up the mentally impaired and the deformed. In his mind, he is the most just person in the world and can’t be held accountable by anybody.

He has vowed to end criminality, but the world’s greatest detective doesn’t seem to realize the simple scientific truth that violence begets violence.

His companies don’t do anything to improve income equality or quality of life, which would actually decrease crime. Then he fosters violence by torturing and terrorizing the poor and the sick.

He also drags a minor to his horror show of brutality. Somehow, in his mind, he is helping this child recover from the loss of his parents.

He has a man servant who tends to all his basic needs and can’t seem to maintain a meaningful relationship to any woman, or anyone. He cherishes his solitude and what he shows to society on rare occasions is a carefully constructed persona.

As you can see, Batman is pretty fucked up. It doesn’t help much that he doesn’t use guns or doesn’t kill, because he likes maiming.

It’s funny because Batman’s peculiar ethics resemble those of his creator, Bob Kane, who stole ideas and concepts from other characters and authors.

Still, I like Batman comics.

Love,

Dad
